I remember visiting New York City in 1990 and going to Canal Street to see all of the fake watches. I can't remember anything about the experience, except thinking that the "Gucci" watches that I saw were really nice, and that a real one would be unobtainably expensive (which for me in 1990, a $400 watch was unobtainable). Well, it turns out that Gucci watches are not very expensive at all, and they are very popular, especially among women.
