Where
do I even start in describing Patek Philippe watches?
I can say that Patek Philippe produces the nicest
dress and nicest complicated watches. "Nice"
is a widely encompassing word in this context. Patek
Philippe dress and complicated watches are extremely
classically designed. The design, execution and
finishing are all the very best. Patek Philippe
movements have the Geneva Seal stamped on them.
The Geneva Seal is the highest attestation of quality
of design and execution for a mechanical watch caliber.
Patek Philippe sport watches like the Nautilus and
Aquanaut are iconic as well as comfortable at the
same time as being competent sport watches.
Some Patek Philippe models that come to mind as my favorites include the now discontinued Patek Philippe 3970 and the current model 5970. The Patek Philippe 3940 is, for me, the nicest simple perpetual calendar watch ever made. The reference 5040 is the same as the 3940, but with a tonneau case. The Patek Philippe 5070 is a 42mm chronograph with yellow gold, rose gold or white gold case and is stunning. The Patek Philippe 3712 and 5712 are newer models with the classical Nautilus case and feature moonphase and power reserve displays. The reference 5085 is a stainless steel model, now discontinued, with "petite complications". The 5036/1 annual calendar is my favorite daily Patek Philippe of all. Available in white, yellow or rose gold.. the white gold model on the white gold bracelet is just great. The new for 2006 reference 5960 is a platinum annual calendar with chronograph and features Patek Philippes first ever automatic chronograph movement.
I can't discuss Patek Philippe without mentioning the price appreciation of many of their watches. Even newer models like the 3712 can appreciate sharply. The 3970 has exploded in price, as have the complicated watches. Here's an insider tip: the reference 3940 will be discontinued for 2007 in my opinion, and prices s of the 3940s available today will only climb as 2007 approaches... and once the discontinuance is formal, prices will double.
