Have you noticed that many of the successful people in the watch business have passion as their motivating force? German Master Watchmaker Holger Wecker is a perfect example. Holger started out his professional life as a goldsmith. Seemingly unrelated, he also had a passion for exotic Italian wood. Some years later, it occured to Mr. Wecker to start making wristwatches with wooden cases. And who says there are no original thoughts left in the world?
It turns out that Briar wood from Tuscany and dark ebony wood from old Italian forests make very nice watch cases. Master Watchmaker Wecker takes no chances, however, and places a metal ring inside each wooden case to ensure that no moisture may reach the movement.
Like many independent brands, Brior can be a little lavish. Consider the onyx used in the calendar ring in the Fin Calendrier, or the deep blue guilloche on the dial of the Tarlo chronograph. Brior also uses proprietary German soft-leather straps on its watches, which manage to completely encircle the wearer's wrist without exposing the skin to any metal whatsoever.
